About

Climate change will likely impact the North Pacific LCC geography in complex ways.  The purpose of this gallery is to bring together climate change data sets that are consistent across the NPLCC, and data sets that predict the responses of species to climate change.

Not all relevant climate datasets are digestible by DataBasin, however, so the NPLCC also encourages users to explore, in addition to the folders below, a few external sites:

1) MACA Data Products: This website provides access to statistically down-scaled climate data from the latest generation of Global Climate Models, CMIP5. These data were used as input to the important recent collaborative project, Integrated Scenarios of Climate, Hydrology, and Vegetation for the Northwest (link). The vegetation models from this project, generated with MC2, are available from our "Modeled Future Vegetation" folder below.

2) ClimateWNA Map: This mapping tool allows the used to visualize a variety of climate variables across the entire NPLCC geography using the latest generation of climate models.

3) NorWeST: This is a stream temperature database with modeled future temperatures. It is an ideal dataset for exploring the potential effects of rising stream temperatures on fish and other aquatic species

It can be difficult to identify the most appropriate climate data for each application; the recent technical report, Climate Projections FAQ, provides some useful guidance.

The resources below are metadata records that are housed on the USGS ScienceBase site (https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/) You will not be able to use these data sets directly within Data Basin. However, you can discover the data sets, and for many records, you can download or be linked to a download site for the data. In the future, we will be adding support for importing compatible data directly into Data Basin.
